Meet the founder
Robert Staunton
M.A.(Hons), PGCE (Cambridge), RSA CTEFLA, EYPS
Robert is the founder and Director of Staunton Tutorial Centre, an established specialist tuition centre with a strong reputation for examination preparation, academic development and individual pupil support.
His particular expertise is in Eleven Plus and selective entrance examinations, including grammar-school, independent-school and scholarship assessments. He also supports pupils with SATs, GCSE English Language and Literature, and the examination skills that underpin confident performance.
Over many years, Robert has helped pupils achieve excellent results and secure places at their chosen grammar schools, independent schools and universities. His approach combines careful assessment, structured teaching and detailed feedback.

A perspective shaped by education
Robert acts as an editorial consultant for Oxford University Press, providing specialist advice on educational texts and resources, with particular expertise in Eleven Plus preparation and assessment.
Before concentrating his professional work on the Tutorial Centre, he was Head of Staunton Montessori School, where he led its educational development and oversaw its recognition as a Teaching Practice Centre for Montessori Centre International.
He holds a Master’s degree in Social Science from the University of Edinburgh, where his research focused on the rehabilitation and education of street children in Asia, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Cambridge. He is also a qualified English-language teacher.
More about Robert’s educational experience
Robert has taught in schools and colleges in Cambridge and at a leading Nottinghamshire special school. He is an Emeritus Vice-Chair of the Montessori Schools Association in the region and has lectured on Montessori education at university level.
He obtained Early Years Professional Status through the University of Northampton, where he later worked with the Department of Education, mentoring and assessing postgraduate students.
Robert has served as an elected Vice-Chair and member of the Nottinghamshire Early Years Consultation Group and as an elected Vice-Chair of Governors at Orston County Primary School.
